Two area towns have been named in
Home Stratosphere’s “15 of the most picture-perfect small towns on the Great Lakes making them wonderful towns to move to or visit.”
Both Huron and Marblehead made the digital publication’s list, at #6 and #4, respectively.
The list, released Oct. 21, includes other Great Lakes towns including Traverse City, Mich., and Two Harbors, Minn.
According the Home Stratosphere article, Huron was listed at #6 because of its “peaceful beaches and waterfront parks,” among other reasons.
“Huron sits on the shores of Lake Erie like it’s in on a secret, offering up peaceful beaches and waterfront parks without any fuss,” according to writer Jon Dykstra. “The Huron Pier is the perfect spot to watch the world drift by, while the town’s old lighthouse stands quietly, holding onto stories of the past. A short walk away,
Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve is a haven for birdwatchers and anyone looking to lose themselves in nature’s soundtrack. There’s no rush here, just the gentle pace of a town content with its place by the lake. Close enough to Cleveland if you need a dose of city life, but far enough to feel like your own little escape, Huron knows how to keep things simple and scenic.”
Making Home Stratosphere’s list is a point of pride for both Huron and Marblehead, highlighting their unique appeal as quintessential Great Lakes towns.
“We are honored to be recognized by Home Stratosphere as being one of the most picture perfect small towns on the Great Lakes,” says City of Huron City Manager Matt Lasko. “The Great Lakes region is known for its countless picturesque towns – so to make the list (#6) truly is quite an achievement. This recognition is important for our residents who take great pride in the community and important for showcasing Huron to vacationers and tourists – which is critical to our local economy and businesses.”
As for Marblehead’s #4 designation, Dykstra highlights the town’s rich history and numerous shops and restaurants.
“Marblehead perches on its Lake Erie peninsula like it’s been waiting for you to notice — panoramic views of the lake stretching out in every direction, anchored by the stoic
Marblehead Lighthouse,” he writes. “It’s the kind of spot where you can take your time, wandering the trails at nearby state parks or casting a line into the lake without a soul around to rush you. The town itself moves at its own pace, with small shops and restaurants tucked away like well-kept secrets. And if the call of the lake pulls you further, the nearby Erie Islands are just a hop away, offering more adventure when the quiet charm of Marblehead’s history and views have had their say.”
This recognition not only highlights both towns’ beauty and inviting charm, but also underscores the broader appeal of the region as a whole.
“How thrilling to have two of our Shores & Islands Ohio communities represented on this list!” says Jill Bauer, public relations manager for
Shores & Islands Ohio. “Not only are they both listed as picturesque Great Lakes locations, but also noted as fantastic places to visit or potentially move to. We know that once we can attract folks to visit our location, they are more likely to see themselves living and thriving here in our coastal towns.”
