What’s going on: The Sandusky Aquatic Center project can move forward now that the SCS Board of Education has approved the design and construction documents presented by architectural firm ThenDesign Architecture. The center will serve both students and community members. Third-grade students will have the opportunity to learn to swim during the school day, and the facility will be open to community members for programming and lap swimming.
Why it’s important: “This new, one pool design will assist us in meeting the needs of our students and community while also ensuring the district continues to be a good steward of district and community resources,” says Board President Martha Murray via a press release. “The new Sandusky Aquatic Center will be a vast upgrade to the current pool that is over 60 years old.”
What’s included in the design: Highlights of the new design include an 8-lane pool, new spectator seating, new family/community locker rooms, a new entrance and lobby, updated athletic locker rooms. Additionally, the old pool room will be converted into a multipurpose room that the community and schools can use for programming.
What’s next: The architectural team will host community events to discuss the project. The estimated completion date is December 2024. More information about the project can be found on the
district website. Questions about the project can be sent to
