It’s summer, which means it’s time for the Sandusky Farmers Market to return to downtown Sandusky. Market Manager Rachael Summerfield fills us in on what to expect from this year’s market.
What is it: The Sandusky Farmers Market is once again on East Washington Row, in downtown.
“We are only blocks away from the water and walking distance to many other small businesses in the area,” Summerfield says in a recent email interview. “It's the perfect place to meet friends, support local businesses, and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Shoppers can expect to find a variety of food items, including fresh bread, pastries, honey, jams, fruits, vegetables, and more. Artists will sell handmade accessories, jewelry, candles, and pet treats and accessories.
Why is it important: Summerfield notes that shopping at the market is a way to meet the farmers, bakers, or artists while supporting small businesses.
“This event not only supports small businesses, but it offers fresh locally grown food to the community who essentially live in a food desert,” she says. “Shoppers get the opportunity to have fruits and vegetables at the peak of the growing season.”
What’s new: This year, market goers can enjoy “2nd Saturday,” Summerfield says. On these 2nd Saturdays of the month, the market will celebrate art culture and performing arts, including live music and entertainment.
“We want to shed light on our local artists while bringing the community together,” Summerfield says.
Summerfield says the market has had more people who have applied to sell at the market this year than in the past, so expect to see familiar and new vendors on Washington Row this season.
“There will be something/someone new each and every Saturday,” she says.
