What is it: Get ready to bring your appetite to downtown Sandusky! The third annual Downtown Sandusky Restaurant Week is slated for March 3-12. This 10-day celebration of downtown restaurants began in 2020 with a small group of restaurant owners with the support of the
City of Sandusky and
Shores & Islands Ohio, says event coordinator Nikki Lloyd.
“Our food and entertainment scene has been growing over the past decade, and we thought it was a great time to showcase what we have to offer,” says Lloyd via an email interview.
Why it’s important: Downtown Sandusky Restaurant Week doesn’t just satisfy taste buds–it also supports a good cause. The event raises money for
OHgo, which delivers food and goods to families in need, stocks school pantries and delivers food to seniors. You can read more about OHgo in
this story from The Helm.
“After taking a break due to COVID and its restrictions, I wanted to organize restaurant week again but in a different way–a way for our restaurant owners to give back to our community,” says Lloyd.
Restaurants, eateries and specialty shops will operate during their regular business hours but will offer something special in support of the culinary celebration. Additionally, every location has pledged to donate to OHgo in order to participate in Downtown Sandusky Restaurant Week, Lloyd says.
“Some of our other downtown businesses have already committed donations in the spirit of Restaurant Week,” Lloyd says.
Local businesses aren’t the only ones who can donate to Ohgo.
“We provide a QR code on our Restaurant Week menus to allow our guests to join in and make a direct donation to OHgo during their visit,” Lloyd adds.
