Tai Chi Comes to the JSP

What is it: Enjoy Tai Chi with mother/son duo Brian and Bev Henderson from Open Way Yoga. Strength, strengthen, balance and breathe while moving in simple, gentle ways. Tai Chi is suitable for all ages and abilities.

When is it: 11 a.m. Wednesdays through Feb. 22 at the Mylander Pavilion on the Jackson Street Pier.

Why you should get involved: “Done correctly, it doesn't even feel like you are exercising, but in fact, Tai Chi builds strength and flexibility and improves balance,” says Brian Henderson. “Like meditation, Tai Chi also helps to down regulate our nervous system, which is a boon to overall health.”

About the instructors: “One thing that makes this Tai Chi unique is that I co-teach with my 86- year-old mother,” Brian Henderson says. “We’ve both been practicing for over 20 years and we really enjoy teaching together.” The team also teaches Tai Chi at 9 a.m. Wednesdays for 8 weeks starting Jan. 18 at the Sandusky Senior Center. They also teach at 6 p.m. Thursdays through May 31 at Open Way Yoga, 607 Main St., Huron.
