What is it: Owners Micah Board and TJ Hakaim moved their business, Wilson's Towing and Recovery, to a new location at 1514 Edgewater Ave., Sandusky. The two moved the business from their Tiffin Avenue location in January.
What services are provided: Board says he and Hakaim, along with their four employees, provide local and long-distance towing, including both wheel lift and flatbed towing services. They also offer full automotive car and light truck repair.
“Everything from simple things like oil changes up to electrical diagnostics and engine replacement,” Board notes via email. “We also are in the beginning stages of offering a small salvage yard and used parts.”
History of the business: “Wilson's Towing has been a part of the Sandusky community for over 10 years,” notes Board via an email interview. “We purchased the business in 2019 where we expanded into automotive repair as well. We created the
Wilson’s Automotive page to help get the word out that Wilson's Towing and Recovery now did automotive repair.”
Board says he and Hakaim found the business for sale online and made the decision to purchase it together.
“Both of us came from a family-run business before the purchase and understand what a name can mean to a community,” Board says. “That's the reason we never changed the name. We wanted to not only continue the Wilson's legacy but also build upon it.”
The need to expand: Board says they owned both buildings since they purchased the business. He notes that the auto repair component of the business started at the first location, 349 Tiffin Ave., because it housed one vehicle lift.
“Over the last four years, the auto repair has grown significantly and only having two bays was starting to become a problem for our turnaround times,” Board writes via email. “While the Tiffin Ave. auto repair was growing, we knew that in the long term we would need to expand.”
Board says they have been working to equip the Edgewater Avenue building for “a full move: shop air, lifts, lighting, everything a functioning shop would need” for about two years.
“The move more than doubled not only our shop space, but also office space and our ability to take care of customers’ needs,” he says.
