After three years in Sandusky, Andy Palmer and Becky Reynolds, owners of Your CBD Store/Sunmed, moved the popular wellness store to Outback Plaza in Perkins Township, so as to have more space and visibility.
What is it: CBD, or cannabidiol, is the second most prevalent active ingredient in cannabis (marijuana).
Harvard Health’s website explains that it is derived directly from the hemp plant, a cousin of marijuana, or manufactured in a lab. One of hundreds of components in marijuana, CBD does not cause a “high” by itself.
According to a report from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”
CBD in Sandusky: Co-owner Palmer says Your CBD Store/Sunmed is “not your typical head shop/vape store.” Their place is much more of an upscale boutique business and emphasizes educating customers and guiding them to a product they are most comfortable using.
He opened the shop three years ago with Reynolds after she began taking CBD for her anxiety and had tremendous success with the product. When some friends who were in the business approached her about opening her own store, Reynolds “tried the product, fell in love, and jumped in.”
The shop prioritizes offering “the best, high-quality CBD/THC products” and does this by manufacturing their own product lines instead of buying from an outside company. The company owns its own product line and is one of the largest brick and mortar retailers in the world. What sets this company apart from others is their focus on health and quality, according to Palmer.
“We care about what the customer and their pets are putting in their body,” he says. "Our company’s goal is to become the Starbucks of the CBD industry. With community involvement and education, we pretty much stand alone at the top.”
Palmer explains that a lot of companies sell and make synthetic products that do not naturally occur in the plant.
“Everything that we offer is organic and naturally occurring in the plant,” he says.
This is an ongoing problem in the health business, he notes. The billion-dollar industry offers little to no regulations of products as most are not reviewed by the FDA. Your CBD Store/Sunmed’s goal is to combat this, Palmer says.
“So many companies just don’t care about quality and safety; they only want to sell products,” he says. “We want to educate customers, not just pressure them into a product that’s not right for them.”
The products: For both humans and their four-legged friends, Your CBD Store/Sunmed offers several different products under their brand so there’s no confusion for customers.
“It’s really customer preference,” Palmer says regarding the most popular selling items. “Usually a topical cream, a water soluble/tincture oil, and gummies. Most customers buy multiple products, and we sell a ton of pet products as well.”
